Counselling

Is Your Young Person Struggling and You Don't Know Where to Turn?

You’ve found the right place. WAYS offers free, proven counselling for young people aged 12 to 24 and their families in the Eastern Suburbs. No referral needed, no out-of-pocket cost.  Here’s what that means for your family:

  • Your young person works one-on-one with a registered therapist who specialises in adolescents, which means they’re understood from the start
  • Sessions are evidence-based and trauma-informed, so the approach is tailored to what your young person is actually dealing with
  • Support typically runs for around six months with regular check-ins, because real change takes time and we won’t rush it
  • Family sessions are available, so you can learn how to support your young person at home
  • If your young person is connected to other WAYS services, their therapist coordinates everything, which means nothing falls through the cracks

The method is always chosen based on the person, not a programme. That’s why families across the Eastern Suburbs trust WAYS.

Here's How Simple It Is to Get Started

We Listen First

The first sessions are about understanding your young person properly — what’s happening, what’s helped before, and what kind of support fits. No rush, no pressure.

You'll Get a Clear Plan

Your therapist builds a plan using proven approaches matched to your young person’s situation.

Ongoing Support for as Long as You Need It

Sessions run for around six months with regular check-ins. There’s no hard end date, and you can re-engage later if things shift.

7 Questions Parents Ask Before Getting Started

No. Counselling at the WAYS Wellness Centre is completely free for young people aged 12 to 24 and their families. There’s no out-of-pocket cost, no Medicare claim, and no private health insurance needed. That’s one less thing to worry about.

No referral is needed. You can self-refer, or a parent, carer, school, or other service can make a referral on your behalf. All you have to do is get in touch and we’ll take it from there.

That’s common and completely okay. We can start with a parent or carer session to talk through what’s going on and explore options together. In our experience, young people are more open to engaging once they know there’s no pressure and they’re in control of the pace.

It depends on what’s needed. Support typically runs for around six months, with regular reviews along the way. There’s no hard end date. If things shift or you need to re-engage down the track, you can. Because every situation is different, we let the young person’s progress guide the timeline.

Yes. What’s shared in sessions stays between the therapist and the client, with some important exceptions:

  • If we believe you or a child or young person is at risk of harm
  • If we think you might harm somebody else
  • If you report a serious crime
  • If our notes are subpoenaed in a court of law

We explain this clearly at the start so everyone knows where they stand.

We’re based at 63A Wairoa Avenue, North Bondi NSW 2026 and Tiffany Plaza, 422 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022. We work with young people and families across the Eastern Suburbs and surrounding areas. If you’re unsure whether we can help, get in touch. We’ll point you in the right direction

If progress stalls, your therapist will review the plan with you and adjust the approach. In some cases, we can connect your young person with other WAYS services like case management or mentoring. You’re not on your own, and neither is your young person.
