Wed 30 Sept · Day 3 of 9

A pirate circus before lunch. Scooter tricks after it.

SwashBuckling Circus at the Sydney Fringe — a pirate circus of acrobatics and slapstick, rated G and made for this age group. The children get pulled into it: deciphering a treasure map, hunting a missing key. Then, in the afternoon, a scooter trick workshop run by the 2023 NSW Professional Men’s Champion — because the children asked for it, for a month, until we booked one.

  • 📅 Wed 30 Sept, 8am to 6pm
  • 🧒 Ages 7 to 12
  • 🎟️ Transport + entry included
  • 🛴 Scooter workshop included

What today actually delivers

Two activities in a day. Four reasons you’ll be glad.

Every WAYS Vacation Care day pairs a real activity with a real outcome for you. Here’s both for this day.

The show
Pirates, acrobats and a treasure map.
SwashBuckling Circus is a one-hour pirate circus of acrobatics and physical comedy, nominated for best kids and family show at Melbourne Fringe 2024. Interactive throughout, so the children are part of it rather than just watching.
The room
A real venue and a real audience.
The Bunker at Fool’s Paradise, Entertainment Quarter. A live audience, lights down, and an hour-long show, which is short enough to hold a seven-year-old to the end.
The workshop
They come home able to do something they couldn’t.
A scooter trick workshop with Mason D’Costa of MD Scootering, 2023 NSW Professional Men’s Champion. Safety briefing and helmets first, then foundations for the first-timers and tricks for the ones who already ride.
The support
Every child gets a real go.
The show is made by neurodivergent performers and built with sensory needs in mind. Educators are seated through the group, and there are quieter seats for children who want them. The performance uses theatrical haze. At the workshop, nobody rides before the safety briefing, and no child is made to do a trick they do not want to do.
The Day

A real theatre in the morning. A scooter workshop in the afternoon.

New this block

The scooter workshop was not our idea.

It was about nine children’s idea. Repeatedly. For a month. So we booked one.

Mason D’Costa runs MD Scootering. He has been competing through the Australian Scooter Association since he was eleven, and in 2023 he was crowned NSW Professional Men’s Champion. Eight years in the industry, and he spends most of it teaching kids and teens.

He starts with a safety briefing and the foundations — stance, balance, stopping — then builds toward tricks at whatever level each rider is at. A child who has never ridden before is not going to be left behind, and a child who already rides is not going to be bored.

Real stories from the WAYS family.

We’ve tried a few holiday programs around the east. This is the first one where my son asks if he can go back the next day. The excursions are the difference.

Drop off at 8, pick up by 6, and everything in between is handled. As a working parent that’s exactly what I need. Booking was easy too.

My daughter is on the shy side and I was nervous about the big days out. The educators kept me in the loop, and by the end of the week she didn’t want to leave.

Questions

What parents ask before booking.

If yours isn’t here, message Sarah, our enrolments officer. She’ll text you back the same business day.

Text Sarah · 0433 245 322
What if my child has allergies or dietary needs?
Every enrolment captures allergies and dietary needs in advance, and meals are labelled. Our educators are First Aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis trained.
How do they get there, and what about food?
Drop-off and pickup is always at the centre: The Russell King Building, 63a Wairoa Ave, North Bondi, from 8am until 6pm. We travel to venues together with our educators, using the best option for each day (city venues are usually public transport). Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Pack a nut-free and sesame-free lunchbox and a water bottle each day, and on some days a treat is part of the program.
My child is 6, or 13. Can they still come?
Vacation Care is designed for children aged 7 to 12, and places are offered to that age group first.

If your child is 6, get in touch before you book. Whether it works depends on the day, the venue and the group, and some excursions set their own age or height minimums, so we look at each child individually rather than giving a blanket answer.

Message Sarah on 0433 245 322 or email [email protected] and she will give you a straight answer the same business day.
What if I need to cancel?
Plans change. Give Sarah at least 7 days’ notice and we can move or credit your booking, no drama. Inside 7 days the day is charged as booked, and government CCS rules apply to late cancellations.
Can I just book one day, or all 9?
Book any combination. One day, all 9, or just the days you need. Each day stands alone with its own program.
How do you handle safety on excursions?
Small groups with qualified educators. Every team member is Working with Children verified, and educators are First Aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis trained. Headcount at every transition point, and updates go to parents through the OWNA app.
